THE 175TH ANNIVERSARY COMMITTEE OF THE OLD BOYS UNION OF THE SIERRA LEONE GRAMMAR SCHOOL
INTRODUCTION
The 175th anniversary committee (i.e. “the Committee”) was set up by the Executive of the Sierra Leone Grammar School Old Boys Union (SLGSOBU) on the 17th October 2019.The 175th anniversary celebrations were launched on the 27th October 2019 at a Thanksgiving ceremony held on the school’s premises.
COMPOSITION
The Committee comprises the following:

WORKING GROUPS
The four (4) working groups set up by the Committee are as follows:
- The Publicity working group: This group is led by Mr. CHUKWUEMEKA TAYLOR and it is tasked with the responsibility to (a) create a logo,(b) design or approve 175th anniversary memorabilia(c) sell or donate 175th anniversary memorabilia(e) to disseminate information about the 175th anniversary celebrations and (f) to interface with alumni and the public about the 175th anniversary celebrations
- The Events working group: This group is led by Mr KELCISE SESAY and it is tasked with the responsibility to plan and organize events commemorating the 175th anniversary celebrations
- The Newsletter working group: This group is led by Dr. EGERTON HINGSTON and it is tasked with the responsibility to put together the 175th Anniversary newsletter comprising amongst other things, the order of the service of the Thanksgiving Service.
- The Sports working group: This group is led by Dr JOWO ABERDEEN and it is tasked with the responsibility to design and organise all sporting events commemorating the 175th anniversary celebrations.
NB: Every Regentonian is invited to join any working group. The working groups are made up of many Regentonians who have volunteered to be a part of the planning and organising of the school’s celebrations and the list keeps extending on a daily basis.
THE 175TH ANNIVERSARY LOGO
The concept was developed by the Committee. The 175th anniversary logo (i.e. “the anniversary logo”) was designed by Mr Ibrahim Mansaray. The logo was unveiled by the Principal of the school and the Chairman of the Committee at the annual dinner and dance held at Sierra Light House Hotel on the 29th November 2019.
The anniversary logo will be used during the anniversary year to brand memorabilia authorised and approved by the committee. It will also be used to brand products showcasing services of excellence delivered by Regentonians.

MEMORABILIA
The “wrist band project”: The “wrist-band project” is both a fundraiser and a reward scheme for the pursuit of excellence.
- 498 wrist- bands carrying the anniversary logo were procured by the committee. The funds for the purchase of the wrist bands were provided by a few old boys of the school.
- 256 of the wrist bands were donated to the school to be given as rewards of excellence for students who obtained high scores on their report cards for the first semester of this academic year.
- The remaining 242 wrist bands are currently being sold to old boys interested in buying them in sets of 10.
NB
Old Boys interested in donating to the school memorabilia carrying the anniversary logo are welcome to seek the committee’s approval to use the anniversary logo.

OTHER MEMORABILIA
There are other memorabilia like t shirts, pens, key-chain holders and stickers procured by the Improvement Committee of the Old Boys Union of the Sierra Leone Grammar School available for sale in the school for fund-raising purposes.

THE 175TH ANNIVERSARY TIE
“The 175th anniversary tie concept” was developed by the Committee and the concept was forwarded to the school. The175th anniversary tie project is a fundraiser. The anniversary ties are currently being produced and they will be available for sale in the school by the 29th February 2020.The anticipated retail price is Le 180,000 each. As it is fun- raiser driven project, the school will only have a limited number of 175th anniversary ties available for sale. The 175th anniversary ties will be sold to Regentonians in Sierra Leone who have expressed an interest in the anniversary ties by signing the register opened at the school by the Committee.
The 175th anniversary tie will also be on sale in the United Kingdom and also in the United States of America. The proceeds of sale will be remitted to the committee. Please contact the respective alumni associations in these countries.

FUNDRAISING
The committee has not received a budget from the school. The committee’s administrative costs are provided by the Committee and some Regentonians who have shown a willingness to give back to the school. The committee will also raise funds from the projects above and will also organise other fund raiser driven events like the Regentonian fun day(22nd February 2020), the luncheon sale (18th April 2020) and the annual dinner and dance( 27th November 2020) all listed on the list of events below. The funds generated by the 175th anniversary celebrations will eventually be used to support the STEMS project.
NETWORKING
This website was established and is supported by Mr. Medsta Taqi. He is a member of the publicity working group. The Publicity working group has also set up various Whatss app groups across a very broad spectrum of Regentonians .These Whatss app groups provide the platform for the dissemination of useful information on a timely basis.
The Committee has a network with all the alumni associations and the synergy between the allumi groups secures the Regentonians as a global brand. The list of events to be held at various locations by the alumni associations during the course of the 175th anniversary celebrations are provided herein.
